Every capture is calibrated at -18 RMS with Red Drive at -24 red drive starting position for correct compressor drive behaviour. Pushing the Red Drive adds more harmonic movement grit and compression thickness.
🧬 A Brief History
The Blue Stripe version of the 1176 is one of the most sought after revisions of the famous FET compressor. It was the earliest commercial version of the circuit and featured a unique input transformer design discrete Class A electronics and a hotter more colourful overall tone. Compared to later revisions the Blue Stripe has more midrange bite slightly more distortion and a recognisable forward aggression that made it legendary for vocals and drums.
Engineers love the Blue Stripe because it can be subtle when needed but becomes alive and explosive when pushed. Singers explode through the mix with presence drums become punchy and electric guitars gain a vivid energetic edge. Its speed clarity and harmonics became a defining part of many seventies and eighties recordings and it remains a studio favourite today for its unmistakable personality.
