🧬 A Brief History

Originally designed in the early 1970s, the NV-1064 (you know the one) is a discrete class-A mic/line preamp that found its way into early British based consoles like the 80 Series. The 1064 was built with Marinair transformers and inductive EQ circuits, giving it a thick, punchy, and unmistakably "British" tone. While many associate the 1073 as the icon, the 1064 shares much of the same architecture — and in many circles, is considered even more vibey and aggressive when pushed.

These units became go-to gear in top-tier studios for tracking drums, vocals, guitars, and even mix bus duties. The transformers alone can sweeten up the harshest digital material with nothing more than a line pass.
