The BBC-Built Console That Found Its Soul in Nashville
Back in the day, the rule was simple: record through a Neve, mix on an SSL. Now, thanks to Genesis and our HQ Modelling Tier, you can load up that exact signal path — without booking a single hour in a studio.
This is the second release in our Nashville Sampling Series, captured in partnership with Purple Mountain Music Studios and engineered by John Neil Martin, a veteran with decades of console time under his belt. From the crisp edge of the 33115 EQs to the deep transformer warmth of the Melbourne mix bus, this is Neve like you’ve never heard it — inside the box.
You’re getting six rich, full-bodied captures from a BBC-born console, carefully sampled and converted to our highest standard:
All profiles are delivered in our highest quality modelling — so you can go lightweight or all-out depending on your needs.
Originally built for the BBC in the early 1980s, the NV 5302 “Melbourne” was a compact, sidecar-style console designed to deliver big-console tone in a smaller frame. It was later restored and modified by Geoff Tanner (yes, the Geoff Tanner), before landing at Purple Mountain Studios in Nashville — now living alongside an SSL 4064 G+, vintage RCA BN2A, and Ampex 600.
Equipped with 33115 EQs, discrete preamps, and a mix bus with serious character, the Melbourne is a rare find — and this is your chance to work with it in the digital domain.
