The Preamp That Shaped Decades — Captured from Two Units for True Vintage Variance
We’ve gone deeper this time.
The updated AnalogX Vintage NV-1073 Preamp Emulations pack has been completely rebuilt using our High Quality Modelling Tier — and now includes captures from two separate vintage units, revealing the subtle but meaningful tonal differences between them.
This is the NV-1073 as it truly sounds: not just one flavour, but the living spectrum of one of the most iconic British Class-A preamps ever made.
From warm and buttery to bold and harmonically rich, the NV-1073 delivers that unmistakable character that needs no EQ to shine. Ideal for vocals, bass, synths, guitars — and absolutely stellar as a front-end tone shaper for your entire mix.
🎚️ What’s Inside
This updated pack now includes 10 high-resolution profiles captured from two distinct vintage NV-1073 channels — giving users access to real-world variation between different units.
Channel 1 Emulations
Channel 2 Emulations
Each profile is gain-matched, calibrated to -18 dBFS RMS, and optimised for red drive at 0 (unity). The Andy Wallace and 10K Shelf variations are crafted for creative tracking and mix tone-shaping.
🧪 Now Includes STD Models – The New AnalogX Standard
This pack now ships with both HQ and STD model versions of each emulation.
The STD model tier is our latest innovation at AnalogX: ultra-efficient, crystal-clear models that retain the soul of the analog unit while using significantly fewer CPU or GPU cycles.
Optimised for Genesis Core and the upcoming Genesis Pro, STD models are especially suited for channel-strip work, fast mix workflows, and large project templates where CPU headroom is critical.
While deeper HQ models still provide added benefits for compressors and time-dependent gear, STD models are an ideal choice for preamps, EQs, tone-shaping tools, and saturation stages — comparable in fidelity to NAM, but improved with our custom architecture for enhanced clarity, phase accuracy, and tone resolution.
🧬 A Brief History
Originally developed in the early 1970s by a certain Mr NV and his team, the 1073 preamp module became a defining feature of high-end British recording consoles. Its transformer-balanced Class-A topology, paired with a unique harmonic structure, gave recordings a sense of “finished” depth and weight — even before touching EQ or compression.
Used on albums by Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Elton John, Nirvana, and countless others, the 1073 preamp’s legacy is both technical and emotional. Engineers loved it for the way it felt under the faders — full, smooth, and musical even when pushed.
What’s often overlooked is the subtle difference between individual units — from transformer tolerances to component ageing. That’s why we went the extra mile here, capturing not just one, but two distinct NV-1073 channels, to bring users the kind of real-world variety engineers get when working on vintage desks.
