🧬 A Brief History
The NV 32264 and NV 32264a modules are among the most respected compressor designs ever developed for 80 series consoles. Built as fully discrete Class A dynamics modules they were used throughout the nineteen seventies and became an integral part of the famous classic British Console sound of the 70's.
The 32264a represents the refined successor to the original 32264. Both units share the same core purpose and control set including adjustable threshold ratio release makeup gain and an independent limiter stage. They could be stereo linked used on individual tracks or placed across a mix bus depending on the needs of the session.
The difference lies in the details. The 32264a introduced design improvements updated circuitry and in some cases higher grade components. Many engineers describe the 32264a as “nicer” or more polished than the original with a slightly more refined tone smoother control response and a more robust overall character.
